Accident Summary:
A string of car crashes caused by icy road conditions has led to major traffic backups in the north of the city. According to the Austin Police Department, 10 cars have crashed on northbound U.S. 183 near Oak Knoll Drive due to the hazardous driving conditions caused by ice. As a result, officers have been forced to divert traffic off the highway.
Leander police are also reporting that ice is causing accidents on the elevated portions of the 183A toll road and are asking drivers to slow down and be mindful of the road conditions.
Additionally, the Cedar Park Police Department has announced the closure of East Whitestone between North Vista and Arrow Point due to a number of crashes caused by ice on the roadway.
