According to the Austin Police Department, a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident occurred on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at approximately 7:45 p.m.
The APD Public Information Office stated that: “a crash between a sedan and a pedestrian, Wenwu Cai, in the 8700 block of Balcones Club Drive. Cai was taken to a hospital, where he died on February 4. The driver of the sedan stayed on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 8th fatal crash of 2023, resulting in eight fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2022, there were a total of four fatal crashes that resulted in five deaths.”
