In a sad turn of events, the Austin Police Department (APD) reports a fatal single-vehicle crash in the 1300 block of W. Cesar Chavez. The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at approximately 4:23 p.m. The preliminary investigation, according to the APD, showed that the vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, left the roadway, and hit a tree. The driver, whose identity has yet to be revealed, was taken to the hospital but died on January 14, 2023. This incident marks Austin’s 4th fatal crash of 2023, bringing the total number of fatalities this year to four. Unfortunately, there were no fatal crashes on the date of this incident in 2022.
