According to the Austin Police Department (APD), on March 4, 2025, at around 1:07 p.m., a collision with an Austin Fire Department Truck and a sedan occurred at the intersection of E SH71 EB and Presidential Blvd. The fire truck was responding to an emergency with its emergency lights and sirens active when it crashed into a sedan at the intersection. Four individuals from the fire truck, the driver and the passenger, were all transported to the hospital. Due to the injuries sustained from the collision, the passenger of the sedan was pronounced deceased at the hospital. This is the 10th traffic-related fatality in Austin for the year of 2025.
