Bicyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in North Austin

Summary of the Accident

A hit-and-run crash claimed the life of a bicyclist on Tuesday night in North Austin, according to the Austin Police Department (APD). The crash occurred around 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of North Lamar Boulevard and Rutland Drive. The bicyclist, whose identity has not been released yet, was crossing the intersection at the crosswalk when a white sedan hit them and drove away without stopping or calling 911. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The APD’s Vehicular Homicide unit is investigating this as the 17th fatal crash in Austin this year, resulting in 17 deaths. At this time last year, there were 15 fatal crashes and 16 deaths. The police are looking for any information about the driver or the vehicle involved in the crash. The vehicle may have recent damage from the collision. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest.
